Since beginning their Da Vinci line of luxury watches in 1969, the Swiss watch manufacturers at IWC (International Watch Company) has modified and updated it several times; the last major change being in 2007. Now it is happening again. The 2017 IWC Da Vinci Collection Watches ($6,100+)boast a somewhat more traditional look that is very reminiscent of the Da Vinci’s from the mid 1980’s. And they’re glorious, as always!
The collection includes a Perpetual Calendar, Chronograph, Tourbillon Chronograph, and an Automatic. Depending on the model, you can spot multiple functions like the moon phase on the face, the exposed tourbillon, the retrograde date markings, and cases in stainless steel or 18-carat red gold with alligator leather straps.
One of IWC’s most famous timepieces is the complex but fascinating Perpetual Calendar Chronograph. The four subdials on its face show the moon phase, month, day of week and date. The four digit year display can chart the year until 2299 when you will have to have the century wheel replaced with one to carry you through again until 2599. A timepiece to pass on to the next six (or more) generations!
