While wireless cans are the rage now, that freedom of movement sometimes comes at the expense of distortion. Japan’s Audio-Technica seems to have solved that problem with their new ATH-DSR9BT Headphones ($550) and the smaller ATH-DRS7BT.
Advertised as “purely digital” Audio-Technica does not use the standard digital-to-analog (DAC) process but instead delivers already digitized data from the source to the headphone drivers so nothing is lost in translation. Although you can wire the ATH-DRS9BT up, there is no loss of fidelity between the two. Expect them to hit your ears in early 2017.
