One of the few things that could be more exciting than exploring the ocean in your own personal boat would be if that boat were a submarine. Originally designed for their Navy’s Special Forces, the Dutch submersible company Ortega has made their new three-seater sub available for sale to private individuals.
At just over 21 feet long, the Ortega Mk. 1C Personal Submarine ($TBA) is powered by two electric motors. The vessel comes standard with trimming tank, HUD navigation, and on-board breathing mechanism. Options can include magnetometers or sonar, FLIR imaging systems, extra air supply, or an extended cargo hold of up to 250 liters.
The battery packs give the Mk. 1C a range of up to 90 miles and speeds of either 10 mph on the surface or 12 mph underwater. The sub can reach down to 310 feet in depth for extreme exploration and the open cockpits give you that up close and personal experience with the mysteries of the deep.
