Horse Cycles out of Brooklyn, New York make much more than just awesome bicycles, they are also well-known for their high quality knives. Their newest release is especially designed to get off the roads and onto the ocean.
Inspired by traditional Scandinavian blades, the hand-crafted Horse Polka Dot Naval Knife ($325) is made for a salty environment. The blade is 440c stainless steel with a scandi grind for quick and easy sharpening. A unique feature of the brass handle gives this knife its name. To keep it from being too heavy, multiple 1/4″ holes are drilled out of the brass and are filled with 1/4″ carbon fiber rods that reduce the overall weight by as much as four grams. It is soldered together with lead-free silver solder to prevent food contamination.
This combination of materials makes a knife that is not only good looking, but very resistant to corrosion. It can be accompanied by the optional hand-made and stamped, thick vegetable-tanned leather sheath to carry your maritime tool with pride for many voyages to come.
