The idea of living among the branches of a tree touches a visceral part of the human psyche. This ‘Woodman’s Treehouse’ ($380/night) in West Dorset, England, offers a luxury take on the ubiquitous treehouse motif. The design was developed by Keith Brownlie and Guy Mallinson of the architectural firm Brownlie, Ernst and Marks and is a two story structure raised on pylons into the branches of a large oak tree for uninterrupted vistas of the surrounding woodland.
The walls are a mixed lot with variations in texture provided by stacked log, oak lathe, and hand hewn oak shingles. Inside, this woodsman’s treehouse offers a plethora of creature comforts. There is a hot tub and sauna on the upper deck, while an open-air shower is featured on the second floor. Inside the circular core of the house awaits a rotating fireplace, king sized bed, leather club chairs and a kitchen.
Entry into the treehouse is via a narrow bridge (of course-what did you expect?) leading up to the scorched oak entry door.
