It has never been restored, its gauges are not working, and the upholstery is in urgent need of an upgrade. This Shelby CSX 2000 Cobra ($Auction) is the first prototype built by Carroll Shelby himself in 1962, and is as original as it gets.
The CSX 2000’s importance in American racing and its impact on the global sports car scene is widely recognized. Featuring Ford’s lightweight, high revving 260-cubic inch V-8 and a modified AC Ace chassis, the stylish, high-performing 2-seater could go 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) in 4.2 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 153 mph (246 km/h). The remarkable model you see here was “owned from new by the legendary Carroll Shelby and has never left his care,” and can now be yours, as it goes up for auction on August 19th-20th in Monterey, California.
