Caterpillar has a new phone to offer, and it certainly blows its competitors (if any) out of the water, boasting a lot of character and a few remarkable skills up its sleeve. The CAT S60 Smartphone ($600) is the world’s first to feature a thermal imaging camera, on top of unparalleled ruggedness.
Almost as tough as Chick Norris, the device can easily survive brutal abuse thanks to its strengthened die cast steel frame inside, Gorilla Glass 4 display, and its housing that exceeds the military’s 810G drop test specifications. This is also “the world’s most waterproof smartphone, able to handle depths of up to five meters for one hour, turning it into a reliable underwater camera”, while its 4.7-inch display has auto wet finger & glove support, and a hefty 3,800 mAh battery provides enough juice for a long work day.
What makes the Cat S60 truly stand out however, is the integrated FLIR thermal camera which carries endless uses (e.g., checking for hot water pipes, overheated wires, or heat loss around doors/windows). As a bonus, you could also use this camera to see if that girl on the other side of the bar is really hot, or it’s just the alcohol, but don’t tell anyone we gave you the idea.
