Flight-House-in-California1

Set in the picturesque surroundings of Truckee- California, in the Sierra Nevada range, this modern twist of a traditional mountain home combines mid-century modern design with rustic warmth. The Flight House takes its name from the curving roof lines as well as the concept of escaping the city life, and getting back to nature. The two wings of the house provide different experiences with the environment: the main living space with the polished concrete floor extends to the exterior feeling “grounded”, while the bedroom wing “takes flight” off the land , the whole construction culminating in a floating 3‐sided glass box in the master suite, for a tree house feel.

Built with efficiency in mind, the Flight House features radiant flooring for heating, and the windows are strategically placed to allow cross ventilation, acting as natural air conditioning. Inside, the spaces are left clean, where low maintenance materials predominate. Natural woods are used, without any tinting or stains: cedar-clad interior, sustainably harvested teak floors, cedar walls and ceilings, and walnut cabinetry. This is a sculptural piece of art with stunning views from every angle! via
