It is not often that we pick up and drink a beer that comes with a philosophy and ethos for its creation, but The End of History does. Created by BrewDog, a kind of indie brewer that likes to stare down the rule book and then stomp all over it, The End of History is a beer with a twist, but first let’s take a look at that philosophy.
The name “The End of History” derives from the work of philosopher Francis Fukuyama. The BrewDog blog says, “Fukuyama defined history as the evolution of the political system and traced this through the ages until we got the Western Democratic paradigm. For Fukuyama this was the end point of man’s political evolution and consequently the end of history.”
Sure, a little deep even we will admit, but basically it is saying that The End of History beer is the last possible evolution, and as such it is the last high abv. Beer that BrewDog will ever make. The company wanted to push the boundaries and see just how strong it could make the beer while still maintaining the perfect taste and refreshment. The End of History challenges what we think beer should be, and it is perhaps the most unique beer available.
As the rockstars of the brewing world, the creation of The End of History is more like a witch’s potion stirring in the cauldron. The ale is infused with nettles from the Scottish Highlands and Fresh juniper berries, and the result is a beer strength of 55%, which is of course stronger than even standard vodkas.
This limited edition run also comes with a special stoat and red squirrel carry case for the bottle, which if nothing else should confirm just how left field BrewDog and The End of History is.
