Coming to Mecum Auctions this month is what is probably the most famous and well-documented Ram Air II in the world. This Pontiac Firebird Ram Air II ($Auction) is the only M21 4-speed ever made with a bench seat rather than the standard buckets. Powering up at 430 to 440 horsepower at the flywheel, the engine was rebuilt to AMA specs.

Keeping this Firebird authentic was a priority, so the correct carburetor and distributor is here. The heads, intake and exhaust manifolds, and even the rear end is spot on. Outside, the Vedora Green paint job accents a deluxe black interior which also includes the original dashboard and door panels.

This vehicle has been featured in such magazines as “Muscle Car Review” and “Muscle Car Enthusiast.” It comes with PHS documentation and the owner history so the new buyer can continue the tradition. With only 62,000 original miles, this Firebird is ready to fly many more miles as a prime example of a time when horsepower was king!
