The best vacation getaways will take you completely out of the ordinary day-to-day ways of seeing the world. This unique luxury “treehouse” suite will help even your vacation downtime be an experience in itself.
The Mexican architectural firm Deture Culsign has created a very satisfying beach treehouse/hotel: the Playa Viva Sustainable Resort in Juluchuca, Mexico ($445+/night). Built as a cylinder facing the beach, this two level, 700 square foot residence is raised (6 feet above the ground) on pylons, and incorporates a lot of natural and native materials in its construction. The very open lower living level provides exquisite views of the ocean and the surrounding trees. The main “perch” is outfitted with a King Bed, private bathroom, a small lounge area with in-floor hammock, and you also get access to a downstairs “bathhouse” with an extra day bed.
Solar power is the exclusive electrical source and the water is on a recycling system for earth-friendly operation. Between the rounded clay tile roof, hand-laid pebble floors, and exposed wooden beams, the feel is more tropical paradise than modern hotel.
