If you ride a classic 70s bike and want a matching helmet, there really is nothing on the market that looks quite right. Except for one: the Premier Trophy Motorcycle Helmet ($310,00).
This classic, full-face helmet is made by Premier – originally a Californian company that produced headgear worn by top riders, back in the day. Of them, the biggest name was probably Phil Reed – 8 times world champion and the first man to win in the 125cc, 250cc and 500cc classes.
Now back to the helmet. The Trophy boasts a retro design, unchanged in many respects from 1973, except for the upgrades to meet the modern safety EC standards. And there are a few things we should make clear: this is not a high-tech, Bluetooth, all-dancing helmet fashioned by white coated men, in a wind tunnel. It doesn’t have air vents and it won’t be the best helmet in the rain, it offers just basic protection. This is a no-fuss helmet for real men, the kind of hairy chested man who rode over-powered, under-braked Superbikes, some 40 years ago. It’s the real deal for all of you independent, fearful, authentic dudes.
