Peak Performance celebrates 40 years of defining Scandinavian ski culture with a limited-edition anniversary capsule that contains modernized archival silhouettes. Its flagship, the 40Y R&D GORE-TEX Jacket and Pants, pays homage to the iconic R&D suit released in 1993. It’s a modern iteration with overhauled textile engineering but a classic modular design.
The original’s adaptable parka-style silhouette and modular 3-in-1 system remain unchanged. But advanced fabrics now replace the original materials, delivering tech apparel that effortlessly adapts to the changing alpine conditions. The outer shell features a custom-developed three-layer GORE-TEX C-Knit Stretch Shell that provides full waterproof and windproof defense with improved flexibility and a softer, quieter feel than traditional hard shells.
Moreover, Peak Performance swapped the original heavy fleece liner with Polartec Alpha Active Insulation on the 40Y R&D GORE-TEX Jacket and Pants. It delivers lightweight, highly breathable warmth that releases excess body heat and vapor before moisture builds up. The body stays dry and comfortable. It also ensures a stable microclimate whether touring uphill or descending through deep powder.
The most interesting addition on the 40Y R&D GORE-TEX Jacket and Pants is the NASA-derived, aerogel-based insulation technology called Solarcore. Peak Performance applied it to selective key zones, especially to articulated areas like the knees, seat, and phone pocket, where conventional insulation can easily lose effectiveness. Solarcore provides thermal retention under compression. It protects against cold lift seats and prevents battery drain without adding bulk.
Peak Performance also gave the 40Y R&D GORE-TEX Jacket and Pants ventilation zips, an articulated construction, and fully sealed seams with water-resistant YKK AquaGuard zippers. The set also features a built-in RECCO reflector useful during search-and-rescue operations, as it provides the wearer’s radar location.
