Marek Kounovský of MK Designers built the Handle Table for Prague-based furniture company Frayer around a simple question: “What do we need to keep close at hand without having it constantly in sight?” It features a clean design that balances function, material, and form. It has a clean silhouette without unnecessary details or decorations.
Its reduced silhouette keeps the table’s appearance uncluttered, so your eyes naturally fall on the items on the table. Specifically, on the concealed storage integrated into its geometry. A recessed spot in the middle holds items you’d normally put on a coffee table, such as a remote, a book, a drink, and more. They stay out of sight but within easy reach. The storage acts as a secure niche that keeps items in place and prevents them from sliding or falling off the table during accidental bumps.
The Handle features an architectural look with its sturdy, blocky framework. But don’t let its appearance fool you. It’s actually surprisingly lightweight. You can lift it by its dedicated handle at the top. The handle adds a functional detail, which makes it easy to move the table from one area to another.
The table stands on a plywood and bamboo framework, with the latter as the main construction material. The bamboo features an oil-based wood-stain finish that enhances its organic structure and tactile properties, while keeping its texture visible. A closer look shows subtle bamboo textures. The Handle Table adds a pop of color to your living room with its vibrant color. It’s available in red or blue colorways.
