A truly exciting collaboration for any design enthusiast, this limited edition silver tea set is bound to get people excited. Danish design house Georg Jensen has invited contemporary industrial designer Marc Newson to create something that would successfully merge the legacy of excellence and exquisite craftsmanship which the two iconic names share.
The set includes five hand wrought pieces in sterling silver: a coffee pot, a tea pot, a creamer, a sugar bowl, and a matching tray to hold them all. It took over six months of work for the collection to reach is final stage, with industry experts bringing together traditional silversmith techniques and top-of-the-line design development technologies.
Nature was an important source of inspiration for the project, each individual piece having an organic shape based of fluid lines and seamless continuity. The top of the pot features a beautifully camouflaged door, which can be easily slid open to pour the water inside. The tiny handle of the door and the larger handle of the pot are made of responsibly sourced mammoth tusk.
To further enhance the set’s connection with nature, the bottoms of the pots are fitted with wrapped rattan bases, which make the pieces safe for any surfaces. For design consistency purposes, the rim of the tray also features the same material. Georg Jensen and Marc Newson are only offering ten of these exquisite sets, each one priced at £82,000 (approx. $126,000).
