InSinkErator launched its new LEDefense technology at KBIS 2026, a one-of-a-kind solution for a cleaner, odor-free garbage disposal. It kills pathogens at the cellular level using antimicrobial light technology from health tech Vyv.
Vyv’s proprietary 405nm non-UV light technology delivers an always-on LED light that eliminates common germs. The light appears as a pleasant purplish-blue hue and is safe for both humans and pets. Unlike traditional UV-based systems or chemical disinfectants, the light is non-toxic, residue-free, and engineered for everyday environments.
Yet, it is tough on bacteria, viruses, and fungi. InSinkErator’s LEDefense technology is designed to integrate with a sink flange and targets bacteria right at the sink opening. It illuminates the grind chamber and its surrounding areas, where bacterial growth typically happens.
The light system emits a specific wavelength of visible light, ranging from 400 to 420 nanometers. Laboratory testing showed the light to be effective in killing 99% of odor-causing bacteria, while remaining completely safe for continuous, unrestricted use. It also prevents the buildup of grime and mold.
InSinkErator’s LEDefense technology is available as a separate accessory or as part of a series of configurations of the garbage disposal and the sink flange. One is the Advanced Series Pro 1250 LED, which utilizes a 1.25 HP Dura-Drive induction motor that operates quietly thanks to SoundSeal technology.
This configuration features a four-stage multi-grind technology that pulverizes waste to help prevent clogged drains. Meanwhile, the second model is the Advanced Series Pro 1000 LED Garbage Disposal. It also features SoundSeal technology and a four-stage multi-grind technology, but only has a 1.0 Dura-Drive Induction Motor. Best of all, InsinkErator’s LEDefence technology is energy-efficient, drawing less than 4.7 watts of power.
