Artemis II is officially on its journey. The Orion spacecraft successfully blasted off from Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Wednesday evening for the 10-day mission to circumnavigate the moon. Along for the journey is Benchmade’s 916SBK-ORG Triage, serving as part of the crew’s EDC kit.

Four of NASA’s astronauts on board the spaceship will have the multi-tool stowed in their spacesuits. While not specifically built for cosmic adventures, it was designed with first responders in mind. Hence, it packs the necessary tools approved by NASA.

This includes the unique blade shape, which features a flat, blunt tip instead of the traditional pointed ones. This is to ensure the safety of the crew, as well as prevent accidental punctures (God forbid to their spacesuits). Moreover, the blade on the 916SBK-ORG Triage is ideal for prying or scraping.

Moreover, the blade is compact enough at 3.4″ long, and crafted from corrosion-resistant N680 blade steel with a protective Cerakote finish. It features a partially serrated edge perfect for cutting tough materials like rope or other fibrous materials.

The blade deploys easily with one hand, utilizing ambidextrous thumb studs, a staple feature in every Benchmade folder. It promises smooth and secure deployment and retraction, while the patented Axis lock secures the blade firmly in place. Meanwhile, the 440C stainless steel folding hook at the opposite end of the blade is sharp enough to cut through textiles, straps, and cords.

Additionally, Benchmade’s 916SBK-ORG Triage packs a carbide glass breaker useful for emergencies. Then ergonomically shaped and textured G10 handle scales offer a reliable and secure grip even with gloves on. Lastly, the reversible pocket clip makes this pocket knife easily accessible.
