KitchenAid released its newest Luminaire Design Series stand mixer with a distinctive feature specifically created to complement the mixer’s new built-in LED light: a transparent glass bowl. The redesigned fluted bowl sparkles, casting prisms of mesmerizing light. It captures and diffuses the light from the integrated bowl light, casting radiant reflections across the countertop.
The earlier launch of the Artisan Plus stand mixer with a built-in LED light partly inspired the new bowl. The light automatically turns on when the tilt-head is lowered. Luminaire shares the same feature. It shines a light on the mixing happening below. Only the bowl makes the whole process seem magical.
Aside from its fluted design, the bowl is remarkably tough, unlike previous releases. It features hardened glass for added durability and scratch resistance during use and cleaning. It now features two handles at the rim instead of one on the side, for added aesthetics.
The bowl was a big focus,” Brittni Pertijs, design manager of color, material and finish at Whirlpool Corporation, KitchenAid’s parent company, said in an interview with CNET. “..We were inspired by traditional pieces like vintage china, cut crystal, and French influences and explored a wide range of how decorative we could go. There were many iterations around the fluting, the depth, and how the pattern interacts with the glass, as we worked to find the right balance between decorative and modern.”
Moreover, Luminaire comes in a light blue colorway called Blue Peppercorn. Its main body has a crinkly, velvet-like finish that makes it look like it’s sparkling. Other details include a color-matched trim band and control knob, and metallic accents. The mixer even has a subtle sparkle motif for a delicate finishing touch.
