Apple’s official unveiling of the iPhone Duo proves foldable smartphones are here to stay. Months leading up to the big reveal, third-party accessory manufacturers and industry insiders suggested it was going to be called the iPhone Ultra. Perhaps it was a last-minute change on their part, but it’s finally coming our way.
So far, the leaks seem spot on, especially from a design perspective. Apart from the brand recognition and operating system, this device is basically just like every other book-style foldable on the market. As the first of its kind in the iOS ecosystem, most analysts predict extremely positive sales numbers before the year ends.
However, some will likely stick with the iPhone 18 or iPhone 18 Pro series in the meantime. As a first-generation venture, early adopters are akin to testers. Nevertheless, this is Apple we’re talking about. Similar to the iPhone Air, every iPhone Duo is shipping with a titanium frame.
Since we’re dealing with a clamshell mechanism and slim physical footprint, the metal is the ideal choice here. As usual, the marketing team is positioning some features as groundbreaking, but we all know these are already on high-end Android OEMs. A wider form factor, an under-display selfie camera, and a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button are not exactly something to write home about.
Still, Apple’s software looks and functions seamlessly on the iPhone Duo. The transition from the 5.4″ Super Retina XDR outer screen to the 7.6″ Super Retina XDR looks flawless and smooth. Handling the primary imaging are a 48 MP Fusion main and 48 MP Fusion ultra-wide-angle cameras. Running everything is an A20 Pro chip, while drawing power from a 5,400 mAh battery.
