Not all guys like to wear jewelry. Of course, there are always outliers among the bunch, but it still depends on the design. Flashy pieces are a hit for some, while the more understated creations tend to have a broader appeal. However, if given the chance and budget, most of us would gladly commission a bespoke bling like this Charizard ring.

To commemorate the Pokémon franchise’s 30th birthday, an unnamed client got in touch with a renowned high jewelry atelier. Philip Gefaell is behind the intricate craftsmanship of this accessory. “His early years were shaped by travels across Europe – through palaces, museums, and historic interiors, where he developed a deep fascination with timeless artistry and fine jewelry.”

For the Charizard ring, it reflects an intimate knowledge of Nintendo’s prized IP. According to reports, it is for a collector and card reseller who clearly has a favorite creature in mind. We like the use of 18K white gold to form the primary structure. Furthermore, the matte surfaces looks great with the decorative etched linework to convey a futuristic motif.

Next is the “A” emblem in a Blackletter-style font that features a polished rose gold Charizard in a menacing pose. It reminds us of medevial manuscripts wherein the first letter of a chapter usually includes a mythical beast or animal of some kind. Apart from the contrasting tones and finishes, natural VSS diamonds also adorn various sections.

Those familiar with the anime adaptation might complain about why it’s not Pikachu — Ash Ketchum’s constant companion throughout the series. Although the electric rodent is considered the most iconic Pokémon, the Charizard ring reminds us not everyone shares the same sentiment. It includes a custom presentation case in green and gold.
