While some road-going e-bikes can handle a bit of rough terrain every now and then, we won’t recommend it. No matter how durable the build quality is, there is a limit to the lifespan. Specifically, the components not designed for paved surfaces only. On the other hand, if you need a ride that can virtually go anywhere, the aptly named Roam should make it possible.
MapFour is giving us a full-suspension trekking platform with top-of-the-line performance and comfort. For a smooth riding experience, the front sports a 100 mm Zoom aluminum fork, while the rear rocks a 60 mm DNM adjustable shock unit. Both are hooked up to an aluminum frame that’s available in a step-over and step-through configuration.
Colorway options include Space Grey and Midnight Blue. Kenda 27.5″ x 2.35″ tires with an anti-puncture layer wrap around spoked rims on both ends. A 36V, 20 Ah, 720 Wh battery powers the Mivice X700 mid-drive motor. Elsewhere, the Roam comes with a 3.5″ TFT display cockpit for telemetry and other electronic adjustments.
Speaking of settings, the torque sensor allows riders to toggle the pedal assist system between Off, Eco, Auto, Turbo, Tour, and Sport. A full charge holds enough juice for 93 miles. Additional safety systems include a 30 Lux front light and taillight, while outstanding stopping power comes from Tektro rotors with HD-R280 brakes.
A Michelin carbon belt-drive and 44T crankset are paired to a Shimano Nexus 5 Speed SGC70005D rear derailleur. Every Roam ships with a Shimano SLC70005 shift lever and IGH 5 Speed cassette. A quick-release seat clamp allows for easy saddle height adjustments. MapFour confirms the e-bike is now in stock.
