During its early days, many viewed BYD as just another mobility startup with lofty ambitions. However, some analysts were able to pick up on its potential, which meant early investors are now reaping the rewards. As of 2025, it has surpassed Tesla in battery-electric vehicle sales. Now, a subsidiary of theirs — Fangchenbao — just unveiled a rakish emission-free supercar christened the Formula X.
Without context, we thought this was a new concept from leading marques in the automotive scene. Furthermore, the metallic lime green coat of its exterior evoked machines built by the likes of Lamborghini, Porsche, and their contemporaries. Even those who are familiar with the Chinese badge’s current fleet will find this entry totally unexpected.
You see, since its founding in 2023, Fangchenbao has been building sustainable SUVs. From all-electric off-roaders to high-performance silhouettes like the Formula X, this is a huge shift for the company. Meanwhile, industry insiders were quick to point out an interesting facet about this upcoming eco-friendly ride.
Instead of a digital dashboard and instrument cluster to convey a futuristic stature, reports point out the unit’s tactile direction. Instead of touch-sensitive controls and displays, it relies on a physical interface, such as buttons, dials, and others. Images only show it with the top down, but we believe the motorized cover might be a hardtop.
The Formula X sports both a gull-wing and scissor opening mechanism. It is equipped with a triple motor configuration that cranks out 1,000 horsepower and approximately 734 lb-ft of torque. Elsewhere, the cockpit is adorned with suede upholstery, lime green piping accents, and metal decorative elements that give off a muted sheen.
