Those who waited for Seiko to revisit its 2012 GPS solar watch can now celebrate. The Japanese watchmaker presumably reviewed and listened to all of the feedback from its customers and finally made some adjustments. We finally have to opportunity to own a beloved classic with all of the bells and whistles of the original in a smaller package. That’s right; the brand new Seiko Astron 5X is a remake of the 2012 model that fits everything into a more compact 42.9mm case that’s only 12.2mm thick.
Looking back, its predecessor was considerably portly with a depth of 16.5mm and 47mm wide. It was lauded for the innovative technology it held within a robust body. However, its size was somehow prohibitive for some people who had smaller wrists. The new model is slightly more compact, but still carries the features and functions that made the original so popular.
Meanwhile, some of you might be wondering about the GPS function of the Seiko Astron 5X. Despite what it suggests, the GPS antenna on this wristwatch works to automatically adjust the time depending on your location. This travel wristwatch sports a titanium case and bezel with ceramic elements. The solar panels on its dial continuously charges timepiece. The hands and indices are coated with LumiBrite for low-light visibility. Additionally, the new three-fold clasp lets you make micro adjustments for the perfect fit.
