Fans of the iconic car will be upset to find out that Volkswagen will not continue the range in the near future. According to industry insiders, there is no word regarding how long the carmaker plans to put the lineup on temporary hold. Hopefully, it’snot going to be for good. However, we at least glad to learn something else. The company will launch the 2019 Volkswagen Beetle Final Edition in honor of the model’s impact on the automotive industry.
Hinrich Woebcken, the CEO of Volkswagen Group of America, confirms the sudden hiatus. It seems that the German automaker will shift its focus and resources to develop and market the upcoming electric-powered I.D. Buzz—a model that’s apparently based on another industry icon—the Microbus.
There will be two variations of the retro-inspired vehicles: a convertible and coupe. These will be easily distinguishable by exclusive paint colors such as Pure White, Platinum Gray, Deep Black Pearl, Safari Uni, and Stonewashed Blue. The SE trim will sit on 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, while the SEL will ride on 18-inch rollers. Each one will sport cloth and leatherette or real leather respectively for each specific trim.
Both versions of the 2019 Volkswagen Beetle Final Edition will depend on a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. Each one pumps 174 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque and pairs to a 6-speed automatic transmission. We really hope that the brand will eventually pull off a surprise decision and revisit this particular model later on.
