Leica Cameras and photographer to the Rock Stars, Jim Marshall, have a long history together. Marshall – the chief photographer at the Woodstock Festival, famous for immortalizing the iconic moment when Jimi Hendricks set his guitar ablaze – was known for always having at least one Leica camera on him wherever he was. Marshall’s unprecedented access to the inner world of the music industry allowed him to frame the shapers of our popular culture in their native state and redefine not only his subjects but the entire way rock & roll were being portrayed.
In celebration of his work, Leica has just announced the Leica M 246 Jim Marshall Edition Camera ($12,950). A Monochrom with brass hardware and a “Laiton” finish matte coating, the camera is paired with a matching brass Summilux f/1.4 ASPH lens and an artisan leather carry strap. A limited edition estate print of “Thelonious Monk at Monterey Jazz Festival 1964″ and a copy of ‘Jim Marshall: Jazz Festival;’ both signed and numbered are also included. A limited run of 50 units.
