As an exercise in creating luxury living while embracing the nature surrounding it, the Nivim House in the Goa Province of India has won the designation of the first ‘Green Certified’ home in Goa. This family residence has won worldwide recognition for its contemporary design that blends nature seamlessly to the interior aspects of the dwelling.
Part of the green certification came from incorporating the fourteen existing trees into the house design. It also uses local materials in construction and utilizes recycled materials whenever possible. To reduce water usage, the Nivim House has a collector for rainwater and uses solar energy for heating. The gardens are planted with native species that require little to no water irrigation to maintain.
The Nivim House contains three bedrooms and a pool pavilion. Each bedroom has two sliding door walls that open onto dedicated courtyards to increase the outdoor living experience. The double-height ceilinged living area also has two sliding door walls that open onto the expansive outdoor areas. The windows are louvered to help filter the otherwise harsh sunlight that illuminates the interior throughout the day.
