With the help of creativity and some design know-how, people regularly come up with new ways to promote sustainability. These days, recycled materials are making their way into more products, which is great news. In fact, even high-end items now incorporate these in various ways in a bid to become more eco-friendly. Placyle shares this customizable piece of furniture called the Torii Bench.
As various green initiatives gain traction, almost every industry shares innovative ideas on how to minimize environmental impact. The use of paper packaging over plastic already makes a huge difference, but it seems society is not yet ready to part ways with the versatile polymer. Thus, instead of total disposal, many startups explore new ways to repurpose.
If we step back and look at the bigger picture, recycled plastics have found their way back into the market. The majority of brand-new apparel, food trays, food containers, beverage bottles, electronics, automotive components, and more contain post-consumer recycled plastics. The upcoming Torii Bench draws inspiration from its namesake.
The story goes that designer Aliasgar Aboojiwala was fascinated by the traditional structures. Torii gates are often seen near Shinto shrines as an ornamental decoration to designate the transition into a sacred area. Hence, this simplicity is on full display through the aesthetics of the Torii Bench. The frame features a seat and legs on both sides.
To ensure reliable rigidity, the construction uses stainless steel fixtures. These materials ensure the Torii Bench remains weatherproof, UV-resistant, and corrosion-free for a long time. Additionally, each one is incredibly easy to assemble, which enables Placyle to save on logistics. Furthermore, optional add-ons include cushions or armrests.
