It has been several months already after the debut of Top Gun: Maverick and people are still raving about it. Critics are lauding the jaw-dropping aerial sequences and adrenaline-pumping action. Aside from aviation, Tom Cruise also has an interest in motoring. Hence, hardcore fans who also share a passion for the latter should check out this 1984 Nissan 300ZX.

Some of you might recall a 1990 movie called Days of Thunder. It’s a film about NASCAR racing which also starred Cruise as race car driver Cole Trickle. However, what many did not know was his stint as an actual racer for Newman/Sharp Racing in the 1980s. Nevertheless, he was deemed by many as too aggressive behind the wheel.

The 1984 Nissan 300ZX up for auction is the actual vehicle the actor drove. According to Bring a Trailer’s listing, it was sitting in a scrapyard until the current owner’s acquisition in 2004. Chassis number JN1HZ14S4EX003379 then underwent extensive refurbishment. A bare-metal repaint sees it flaunt a white coat with a red and blue #70 livery.

An inspection shows the odometer at 5,000 miles. Under the hood is a 3.0-liter V6 with MSA headers, MSA throttle body, HKS ignition, HKS exhausts, and Jim Wolf Technologies camshafts. Bidders better know how to drive a stick as this comes with a five-speed manual gearbox. The 1984 Nissan 300ZX’s suspension system features Tokico shocks and springs.

Inside, we have a red/black vinyl upholstery on the 3A Racing bucket seats with Shroud multi-point harnesses. The cockpit likewise reveals black vinyl door panels, an AM/FM cassette stereo unit, a padded roll cage, and a two-spoke steering wheel. Tom Cruise’s 1984 Nissan 300ZX should make a fine addition to a motorsport fans’ collection.
