Normally, when a carmaker offers bespoke coachbuilding services, nothing is off the table. Actually, it doesn’t matter how ridiculous the request is. As long as the changes don’t negatively affect driving characteristics, performance, or safety, clients can commission the ride of their dreams. BRABUS, on the other hand, supplies turnkey options such as the new 900 ROCKET EDITION CABRIO.

As usual, the German aftermarket tuning group loves working with a particular marque. Thus, its latest venture deals with a luxury-tier SUV. Specifically, the project starts with a Mercedes-Benz G 63 (W 465 generation), which then welcomes multiple upgrades that turn it into an entirely different machine.

Whenever stock units are in the hands of BRABUS’ team, expect a dramatic boost over the standard numbers. Originally, under the hood is an AMG-tuned 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo mild hybrid, which is no slouch at 585 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. However, the 900 ROCKET EDITION CABRIO tweaks completely blow it out of the water.

The official specifications say the reworked 4.5-liter V8 now cranks out 900 horsepower and 922 lb-ft of torque. Of course, adjustments are made to electronically limit the latter to 774 lb-ft at the wheels. Apparently, this is to ensure the tires and drivetrain operate within the ideal threshold. Meanwhile, this bad boy hits 62 mph from a standstill in 3.7 seconds.

Furthermore, the 900 ROCKET EDITION CABRIO can reach a top speed of 149 mph, which is impressive for a vehicle in its category. Elsewhere, BRABUS outfits the SUV with a motorized soft-top for open-air drives. Other enhancements include a carbon fiber WIDESTAR body kit, BRABUS Monoblock II EVO three-spoke rims, and a BRABUS Masterpiece interior.
