CES 2022 reminds us that despite the ongoing challenges from the pandemic, innovation inches forward. This also extends to the automotive industry and many have exciting new platforms in store for this year and beyond. BMW, for example, shares more details about its iX M60 and its shaping up to be a thrilling one.
Like other German marques, BMW strives to always meet or even exceed their client’s expectations. Thus, the all-electric SUV is brimming with top-class features and capabilities. Shipping out to showrooms and buyers this summer, it won’t be long till these are rolling on the streets.
The iX M60 is the second bimmer EV to earn the “M” or “Motorsport” badge. The carmaker reserves this designation exclusively for variants that are race-ready. Interestingly enough, to generate a higher output, its powertrain adopts a “current-energized synchronous machine” system for its two electric motors.
We’re looking at 619 horsepower with up to 811 lb-ft of torque when in Launch Control. This pushes the SUV from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds – an impressive number for an EV of its bulk. The range on a single charge will take you about 280 miles before it needs to juice up.
Speaking of batteries, the iX M60 is packing a 111.5 kWh (106 kWh usable) which is larger than what its competitors are using. Depending on the charging station’s capabilities, it will take as long as 97 minutes or and short as 35 minutes to get from 10% to 80%.
To the delight of many, BMW thankfully keeps the aesthetic elements grounded. LEDs everywhere imaginable on an EV can make it look too gaudy. Also, save for a few geometric splashes here and there, the SUV still sports sleek curves. The luxurious iX M60 shows us that a sustainable future won’t be too far now.
