The smartphone scene has been seeing a lot of innovative concepts. Unfortunately, most of these never even make it past the concept stage. The few that do, on the other hand, still do not guarantee mass production. However, sometimes cool ideas like the Hibreak Dual do make it into the retail phase.
As the “world’s first E ink + LCD dual-screen 5G smartphone with stylus support, it caters to a particular niche. The SKU might not appeal to every user, but its features are unique enough to warrant attention. Since Bigme is renowned for its lineup of e-readers, the device incorporates a bit of that as well.
At first, the Hibreak Dual resembles your typical candybar handset that runs on Google’s Android operating system. In front is a 6.13” color E-ink panel with a surprisingly high refresh rate. At roughly 53 frames per second, it’s not exactly something to write home about.
Nonetheless, it renders flickering a thing of the past. Furthermore, the moving images appear smooth with significantly less lag. A caveat we want to point out is the seemingly washed-out hues. Yet, it’s just a small gripe as the rear panel compensates with a round subsidiary LCD.
This versatile piece of hardware is outfitted with a MediaTek Dimensity 1080 with either 8 GB/128 GB or 12 GB/256 GB RAM and internal storage. The Hibreak Dual draws power from a 4,500 mAh battery. It also boasts dual-SIM support with 5G network connectivity.
“Your E Ink main screen stays distraction-free for deep focus. The LCD secondary screen shows you notifications, time, and key info with just a glance. Stay in the flow, always,” writes Bigme. The Hibreak Dual is expected to ship next month.
