Classic car collectors are in for a blast this coming weekend as RM Sotheby’s holds the London Auction 2026. Close to 30 vintage vehicles of varying makes/models are listed. To ensure there’s enough variety, plenty of modern options are also hitting the stage. However, our attention goes to a 1959 Land Rover Series II “Art Car” by Sean Wotherspoon.
The asking price is substantially lower than everything else in the lineup, but lot number 165 is quirky enough to draw curious looks. Whoever outbids everyone gets to drive a scene-stealing machine wherever it goes. This bad boy is a mechanical canvas showcasing geometric abstraction. Varying hues of each primary color coat the exterior.
Meanwhile, the interior also features a contrasting patchwork for the upholstery. It runs from front to back. The American designer did not mess around much with the rest of the cockpit. Hence, the retro aesthetics are pretty much intact. Instead of leather and other premium materials, this 1959 Land Rover Series II uses textiles.
“The left-hand-drive Series II was fitted with new 16-inch Wolf wheels wearing BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A tyres and a modern stereo head unit with Apple CarPlay integration. Once finished, the car was shipped to California and displayed at Monterey Car Week in August 2025,” writes RM Sotheby’s.
According to service records, among the refurbished components are its clutch, master cylinders, slave cylinders, and release bearing. The shop in charge of said work is Tommy’s Motor Co of Essex. The 1959 Land Rover Series II “Art Car” by Sean Wotherspoon is akin to a rare painting. Except it’s one that could be displayed and taken out for a ride once in a while.
