Tokyo-based design studio Tsuchioto Works gives the classic plier-based Leatherman multi-tool a spin with the Blackjaw. This black-out wonder packs all your most-used utility tools for DIY projects, minor repairs, and more, without compromising performance and durability.

It secures 10 fold-out tools (11 if you count the carabiner as a tool) in a sturdy chassis made from a mix of aluminum and stainless steel in a matte black finish that ages gracefully over time. The tools fold into a pocket-friendly size for everyday carry. These include long-nose and standard pliers, a knife, a wire cutter, and flat and Phillips screwdrivers.

Additionally, Blackjaw packs a bottle opener, wire stripper, can opener, double-sided saw, and a carabiner for hanging.  All these tools pack into a compact footprint that measures 4.2″ long when closed and weighs just 7.8 oz. What sets this multi-tool apart from other plier-based multi-tools is its organized setup.

The tools are organized into four categories for easy access: Camp, Work, DIY, and Everyday. The Camp set comprises the saw, blade, and bottle and can openers. Meanwhile, the Work selection includes the wire cutter, wire stripper, and long-nose pliers. Any of these tools also fall into the DIY and Everyday Carry sets, depending on how you use them.

These tools are easily accessible on the outside of the split handle, so you don’t have to open the handle all the way if you want to use just one tool. Moreover, Blackjaw offers pliers that have a secure grip on round materials. It uses a three-in-one single-pivot design with long-nose pliers at the tip, standard rounded pliers in the center of the jaws, and a wire cutter in the innermost gap.
