Hublot is no stranger in the world of haute horlogerie. The watchmaker constantly appears in headlines thanks to its willingness to experiment with unique designs. A playful new reference is heading our way in collaboration with American artist Jeff Koons. This is the Classic Fusion Balloon Dog, and it’s available in three dazzling shades.
“Every curve, finish and proportion serves a purpose. This collaboration is not about surface. It is about what lies beneath: craftsmanship, meaning and emotion, brought together in a timepiece that gives volume to an icon,” reads the overview. Meanwhile, much like the stainless steel sculptures of its namesake, the polished components are highly reflective.
It’s impressive how nearly the entire assembly mimics inflated rubber or foil party favors. The Classic Fusion Balloon Dog comes in silver (542.SX.0820.NR.JKN26), red (542.UR.8170.NR.JKN26), and blue (542.UB.5170.NR.JKN26). Each anodized aluminum case measures 42 mm and touts a 5 ATM water resistance.
The motif then extends to the bezel, dial, crown, case middle, case back, and a decorative tail element at 10 o’clock. Hublot’s HUB1710 automatic caliber promises a 50-hour power reserve. The self-winding movement even features an oscillating weight that resembles an inflated balloon. Also moving to the dial, Hublot opts for a rhodium coating and domed hour markers.
A date window occupies the space at 3 o’clock, while the co-branding appears at 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock, respectively. The Classic Fusion Balloon Dog relies on white Swiss Super-LumiNova for readability in the dark. Lastly, every color is limited to 200 examples each and ships with a matching rubber strap and stainless steel deployant buckle.
