Just rolled out of the Rover Dome in Kissimmee, Florida, East Coast Defender’s latest custom-built monster is a study in black. Named ‘Project Blackout’, this 1987 Defender 90 was brought all the way from England to fill the desires of a client who wanted a vehicle that could be driven every day as well as on his weekend off-road adventures.
A General Motors small-block LC9, 5.3-liter, 326-hp V8 Chevrolet engine was chosen as the best balance between performance & fuel economy, matched to a 6-speed automatic transmission with a Borla exhaust and EBC Performance brakes.
As noted, Project Blackout is dark both inside and out. The exterior is done in a classic black paint with black checker-plate accents and sits on 18″ black Sawtooth wheels. The all-black interior includes heated leather Land Rover seats as well as a Kenwood infotainment system and amplified speakers, so its owner can chillax and blast some tunes after a long day of muddy shenanigans.
