Going onto the auction block at RM Sotheby’s this month is one of the first iterations of the boxer engined Ferraris. This 1974 Ferrari 365 GT4 BB is one of only 387 first series examples of Ferrari’s road-going models. The Boxer got its nickname from their mid-mounted flat 12 cylinder engines.
This particular Ferrari, chassis number 18001 with engine number 00158 originally had left-hand-drive steering and was painted in Giallo Fly with black leather upholstery and completed on June 14th of 1974. It made it to the United States in 1981. Repurchased in 1984 to a resident of Mill Valley, California, it saw very infrequent use for the next 30 years.
As well as being fitted with an authentic triple pipe exhaust system, it was repainted black. The vehicle also recently underwent some cosmetic exterior updating to reinstate the period matte black around the bumpers and below the door line. Some major service work was done in 2015 – fully documented in the accompanying paperwork. This rare Ferrari doesn’t come around often so bidding should be hot & heavy between the collectors that want to drive this fine machine home.
