German motorcycle enthusiast Uwe Kostrewa of Hombrese Bikes (it’s actually a one-man garage) knows that if you want to achieve extreme quality in motorcycles you need to rebuild for that extra spark in design and performance. His latest project was to overhaul this 1999 model W650, to retain the bike’s retro-looking lines, while pumping it full of modern features.
Uwe was focused on maintaining the reliability of this legendary twin cylinder Kawasaki from the beginning. He started out by cutting away the Bonnie like long tail and then fabricated a shorted Tracker-style rear end. The provident use of a 1970″s Yamaha Enduro tank added to the Tracker image he sought.
He topped off the 2-wheeler with a true work of art — a striking, hand-made stainless steel exhaust, attached to a GP muffler to reduce noise from the powerful 676cc parallel twin engine. Finishing off with an open display of engine sections, a custom paint job with vintage red graphics, and tiny lights & speedo to enhance the clean appearance and , his newly rebuilt Kawasaki W650 is ready to stand tall among the ranks of world-class motorcycles.
