Inspired by the brave American parachutists of WWII, who wore a crest bearing a skull and the words: “Death from Above”, the BR 01 Skull Bronze ($6,100) by Bell & Ross is a unique timepiece, oozing rebellion.
As a follow up of the first “Skull” BR 01 watch, released back in 2009, the new bronze edition sports the same iconic 46 mm square case, this time made of a copper alloy (92%) and tin (8%). This combination is said to offer “excellent resistance to wear” while boasting a very distinctive color that changes in time from red gold to an oxidized patina, depending on the environment (temperature, humidity, friction, etc.), which means each model will turn out looking different. A titanium caseback ensures hypoallergenic properties and lightness, while the front boasts an awesome skull and crossbones (the “Jolly Roger”) with the dagger and the sabre as hour and minute hands, powered by a self-winding movement and protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal.
Available in a limited run of 500 pieces, the BR 01 Skull Bronze is water resistant to 100 m (328 ft), and is completed with an aged brown calfskin strap, for that old-fashioned look.
