As a badge synonymous with high-performance motoring, it may come as a surprise that Mercedes-AMG also caters to sustainable mobility. However, if you really think about it, modern EV technology can outperform internal combustion engines by a huge margin. The all-new GT 63 SUV is out to prove naysayers wrong.
If not for the absence of a traditional grille, nobody would think this machine is an emission-free beast. With a forward-facing profile proudly flaunting the iconic three-point star badge, brand recognition is immediate. Its elegant and sporty silhouette conveys the one-of-a-kind driving experience only a vehicle of its caliber can deliver.
“A sports car with SUV dimensions: the first full-size SUV developed entirely in-house by AMG combines uncompromising performance with generous long-distance comfort,” describes the marketing page. Whether you’re out for a long weekend trip, a day on the tracks, or just the usual commute, the GT 63 SUV is ready to go.
Its underpinnings call on the AMG.EA architecture with a triple-motor configuration. One high-density, axial flux unit is mounted on the front axle, with two more for the rear. Next is the 800V, 128 kWh battery pack. The German marque claims its all-electric powertrain can maintain a 530 kW continuous output. A Central Cooling Hub (CCH) makes this possible.
Speaking of numbers, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SUV cranks out about 1,169 horsepower and 1,475 lb-ft of torque. This eco-friendly ride can go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.4 seconds. Meanwhile, its top speed reaches 168 mph. Other cool features include an active roof spoiler, 23″ forged alloy rims, a Panamericana illuminated vertical slats, and a sensory audio system that replicates a V8 exhaust note.
