Retro-inspired clothing, shoes, music players, and other tech accessories are having their moment, with brands digging through their archives for inspiration. Swedish outdoor specialist Fjällräven has joined the party by giving its Expedition Down Lite Jacket a vintage aesthetic.
This archive-inspired winter jacket features bold color-blocked designs inspired by nature. It combines contrasting panels reminiscent of the style of performance apparel from the 1970s or 1980s. “For the Expedition Series, which has such history, color blocking feels like a fresh approach,” explains Fjällräven designer Samuel Stadell.
The retro-inspired colorway of the Expedition Down Lite Jacket brings what the brand calls “a fresh expression” to a heritage piece. It’s a less bulky interpretation of the original Expedition Down Jacket released in 1974. series. It retains the oversized profile, generous hood, and distinctive horizontal baffles designed to provide serious warmth in the cold.
Fjällräven focused on color combinations instead while retaining form and function. This winter jacket comes in bold seasonal colorways, including Emerald-Black Oak, Fossil-Suede Brown, Black Oak-Dark Navy, and Chestnut-Dark Navy. All offer lightweight warmth and protection through down-filled sewn-through channels for ultimate insulation. Its durable 100% polyamide outer also resists water and wind.
The Expedition Down Lite Jacket also uses synthetic shoulder padding that resists moisture, wear, and backpack pressure. The adjustable protective hood and two-way front zipper seal the warmth in for comfort when the temperature drops. Storage options include spacious top-loading exterior pockets with side access for quick-access items and three inner pockets to store valuables.
