Keeping your man-powered 2-wheeler secure when parked outside while you go about your daily tasks, usually requires lugging heavy chains or solid steel U-locks around. Otto Design Works of Portland (Oregon), have devised a solution that is not only effective in theft protection but weighs as little as 4-1/4 ounces instead of pounds.

The OTTOLOCK Cinch Bicycle Lock ($55+) is a flexible band 7/10″ wide that is made up of multiple high-tempered stainless steel bands reinforced with Kevlar and covered with Santoprene thermal formed plastic. It is fastened by a 3-wheel resettable combination lock made of ‘smash-proof’ aluminum.

OTTOLOCK comes in three sizes. The smallest is the 18″ long, 4-1/4 ounce band. The 30″ cinch lock is 5-1/2 ounces, and the largest is 60″ and weighs just 8-1/4 ounces. While they are extremely cut resistant against pliers or bolt cutters, they may be susceptible to heavy-duty tools such as hacksaws or angle grinders so they are not recommended for long-term storage or overnight.
