Even though its makers say it’ll do just fine as a commute car, the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 ($TBA) is really all about delivering waves of pure adrenaline at the race track.
Last year’s Camaro was by no means a slouch, but the new model just blows it out of the water in every possible way. The performance-oriented ZL1 boasts the same stiff chassis and superb handling of its predecessor, but amps everything up, thanks to a supercharged 6.2L V8 delivering 640 hp and 640 lb-ft. of torque. This mighty engine comes with a six-speed manual gearbox, or a brand new 10-speed automatic, that’s supposed to perform like a true pro driver.
Adequate airflow is provided by a new grille with large openings (even the bow-tie logo is open), a huge splitter up front & a heat extractor on the hood, while widened front fenders & a substantial rear wing help the car keep a solid stability on the track. Other details include a tweaked Magnetic Ride suspension system, selectable driver modes, 20″ aluminum wheels wearing sticky Goodyear Eagle F1 tires, massive 15.35″ Brembo brakes, and an interior fitted with sporty Recaro seats, a D-shaped steering wheel (in suede), and more suede details with red sport stitching for a sharp look.
