If you have seen this year´s sci-fi action thriller Elysium then you would have seen Matt Damon running around wearing a futuristic metal exoskeleton that gave him super strength and other enhanced attributes.
It seems that the tech in the movie is not that futuristic after all as a team of boffins from the University of Pennsylvania have designed the Titan Arm Exoskeleton. This mechanical system has been designed to be a strength enhancing system and is to help tired workers and those inflicted with health problems.
A back mounted power pack straps around the shoulder and kicks in to enhance strength, while an arm frame with elbow joint gives full mobility. The Titan Arm weighs 18kg, but we´re told that it does not feel that weighty in use, and the great thing about this product aside from its innovation is the fact it will ship for just $2,000.
We can see why this won the 2013 Dyson Award, one of the most prestigious for inventors. via
