Some of the exciting upcoming open beta titles include: “SMITE” for the PS4 and “Overwatch” from Blizzard. Unfortunately, not all games enjoy a smooth ride when it comes to beta. Such is the case with “Fable Legends” from Lionhead Studios.

“SMITE” Open Beta on March 22

On March 22, The PS4’s multiplayer online battle arena title will be going open beta, according to the “SMITE” official website. At that point, the game will be Free to Play to all PS4 players.

But for those of you who wish to play the game before the 22nd, you can grab up to four “SMITE” Beta Codes by following and liking SMITE on social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter.

If you’re already enjoying the SMITE Beta, you can continue having fun!

March 22, the date set for the open beta, also marks the second birthday of the PS4 title. As part of its birthday celebrations, Hi-Rez Studios announced that it will roll out several goodies for gamers.

“Overwatch” Open Beta on May 5

An announcement on the official Blizzard website states that they are opening the doors to players a few weeks ahead of the May 24 official launch date.

Players can gain early access (by two days) to the open beta by preordering (pre-purchase) “Overwatch” on any platform: the PS4, Xbox One or PC.

“As a newly added bonus, if you pre-purchase or preorder Overwatch for any platform at, you’ll also get early access to the Open Beta for you and a friend from May 3–4. After that, everyone will have a chance to play free during an all-access Open Beta period from May 5–9.”

One pre-purchase will allow access to two people from May 3 to 4, a full three weeks ahead of the launch. That’s pretty unusual.

Overwatch is a unique case though, as select players enjoyed “early access” to the full scope of the game over a period of months, across several closed betas. Blizzard is using this time to tweak the game, as well as adding new modes and features.

Pre-purchases can be made though the Shop where both the Original Edition and the digital versions are available, from a participating retailer, and through the PS Store and Xbox Store once the option goes live. The company has started taking pre-orders and the last date is April 29.

Do you remember the Fable Legends game? Even if you don’t, it no longer matters.

Microsoft Cancels Xbox One’s “Fable Legends” and is Shuttering Lionhead

Microsoft has officially canceled the game, and the Lionhead Studio, the game’s developer, may be shutting down.

The 4v1 asymmetric game was announced in 2013. By 2014, it had begun a closed beta. An open beta was supposed to have started sometime this spring.

But behind the scenes, things haven’t been good for Fable Legends, and there has been a lot of talk about the game’s demise by industry folk, media and fans. Now, they’ve all been proven right.

Microsoft issued an official statement, “After much consideration we have decided to cease development on Fable Legends, and are in discussions with employees about the proposed closure of Lionhead Studios in the UK.”

These changes are taking effect as Microsoft Studios continues to focus its investment and development on the games and franchises that fans find most exciting and want to play.”

An announcement by Lionhead Studios said that that the closed beta for “Fable Legends” that started last year will come to an end on April 13, until which time players who are already in, can continue to access the game. However, no new players can join the closed beta.

According to the studio, all gold purchases made in the game’s bank will be disabled. A refund will be initiated to players who have already made in-game gold purchases. All eligible players will receive communication via email.
