HMD global who now owns the Nokia brand appears to be in a hurry launching Nokia’s first Android phone. Nokia 6 representing Nokia’s first android phone from Nokia has now been launched in China at a price of $245 and available exclusively through China. If you live in another part of the world and have been waiting to get a feel of Nokia android phones, you may need to wait longer. However, Nokia-HMD global has planned as many as 6 new android phones in 2017.

Nokia’s first Android phone features

Nokia 6 is wholly aluminum and according to HMD global, the process involves 55 minutes machining a single device from a 6000 series solid block of aluminum. Two independent anodizing processes follow about 10 hours for completion, and each phone is polished about 5 times. This process gives the final result which is the aluminum unibody with the highest level structural and visual quality.

Nokia 6 hardware incorporates a 5.5” Full HD display with 4GB RAM, Snapdragon 430 SoC, 2.5D curved glass, 64 GB storage, dual-SIM provision, microSD slot, 16MP rear camera, Bluetooth 4.1, 3000mAH battery, Stereo speakers providing Dolby Atoms sound and a fingerprint sensor. Android 7.0 Nougat is the OS for the phone.

Why China is important for Nokia’s first Android phone

Strategically, China is an important market for HMD Global, because of the 552 million people using smartphones in the country. This is the reason why HMD Global has chosen China to launch the first Nokia brand smartphone in the country. The Nokia brand coming out of the HMD Global stable is also slated to launch 6 more phones during the current year. Therefore, we can look forward to hear more on the plans at the upcoming MWC in February 2017. An exciting period awaits the brand in 2017.

Nokia’s first Android phone low-power Snapdragon processor could be a drag

However, Nokia 6 comes with a relatively low-power Snapdragon 430 Qualcomm processor and the USB 2.0 port. These features could be a drag in 2017, considering other offerings in the global markets at Nokia’s price level. Yet, there is no taking away the pretty nice design and if Nokia 6 design is an indication of future smartphones under the Nokia brand, we should be seeing some impressive models across the year. Though Nokia’s effort in rising to the top again is laudable, it has a long and arduous journey ahead. But, Nokia fans are excited to see the effort.
