The Inbetweeners, just like a slew of comedies that put a focus on those awkward years of teenagers, is as excruciatingly funny as it can get. This British anti-Entourage sitcom revolves around the story of four friends who struggle to make it through high school.

Nevertheless, you will get plenty of LMAO moments out the quartet’s boneheaded antics and horrendous luck. Uncool and not slick, they all go through perils and pitfalls of high school life, such as the bullying woes, underage drinking, and so much of those thwarted sexual encounters in their awful young lives.

The boys can easily revert to their archetypes sometimes. The snobby nerd protagonist, Will, simply cannot do or say the right thing, the cynical Simon, and the goofy Neil. Then, there is the crude sex-obsessed Jay, whose virginity is the bane of his existence.

All these four suburban teenagers find themselves an outcast who do not belong to any group other than their own band of misfits.

The Inbetweeners evolves as a now-classic, cringe comedy. It poignantly reflects teen’s horrific years in high school, or how it is typically conceived to be, at the very least.

The show’s humor is outrageously profane but wonderfully done. The show has shorter seasons, thus, it is an easy binge-watch, especially if you stomach the cringe. On top of it, you will love the show’s kickass soundtrack.

You get not just one but two of The Office. There is the US version, which owes it to the UK version. This comedy show serves as a great example of a few successful American remakes of a British IP.

The UK version, which is the original cringe comedy, stars Ricky Gervais who plays the role of the clueless boss David Brent. The lead character makes desperate attempts at connecting with his underlings, a painful exercise in futility.

On the other hand, the US version stars Steve Carell, who is equally awkward. However, Carell’s Michael Scott proves himself to be more sympathetic through time.

Some critics and fans alike see the U.S. version of The Office as a mere pale imitation of its British counterpart. It is also said that the show’s last two seasons is an overextension when it should have concluded when Carell exited in season 7.

However, both versions are fun to watch and entertaining to viewers. The Office is equally brilliant as a cringe comedy.

Sex Education is an eight-episode series that understands and leans into the awkward, weird, random, and confusing life of a teenager.

Set in the UK, it follows the story of Otis (Asa Butterfield), a high school student who sets up an underground therapy clinic for his peers. One of his classmates says that Otis is that weird sex kid who looks like a Victorian ghost.

Sex Education is clearly an explicit one to watch. You can expect to see lots of upfront talks about anatomy and sex, including full nudity.

Many episodes focus on a kind of Case of the Week, which the show uses to evolve its major narratives. Oftentimes, it does not end the one-hour episode with solving the case entirely.

The main character is giving advice to his classmates, not particularly about sexual positions but more about their expectations and psyche. For example, Otis asks one of his clients, “What makes you feel like you have to give your boyfriend a blowjob?”

On one occasion, he asks another client about five things she likes about herself. It is not always concrete advice from Otis, however.

The show, just like Otis, is a lot more charming that viewers easily find themselves emotionally invested in the kids’ lives. It sets itself apart from other coming-of-age plot or teen comedies with its straightforward inclusion of sex in a real, grounded manner instead of a mere comedic effect.

Trailer Park Boys receives mixed reviews from its audience, so, you will either love this comedy or hate it. The bizarre Meta world developed from its early seasons has allowed the show to last for 10 seasons and spawn three movies, including a live tour.

Since it premiered in 2001, Trailer Park Boys follows the story of the lives of Julian (John Paul Trembley) and his best pal Ricky (Robb Wells). The two boys live in the Sunnyvale Trailer Park in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

They both strive to clean up their lives after they spent time in jail. However, no matter what they do, it does not go well for them.

They always get into troubles with their friend Bubbles (Mike Smith) as well as other colorful characters. They all try to steer clear of the trailer park supervisor Jim Lahey (John Dunsworth) and his assistant Randy (Patrick Roach).

Since these people are deep rednecks of Canada, thus, the show’s plot is full of tons of booze, weed, gunfire, and idiocy. It’s quite easy for the audience to get wound up in the Julian and Ricky’s worlds as the two actors share superb rapport on the small screen.

Bottom line, critics acclaim how Trailer Park Boys never stops to elevate its audacious humor despite that this show is not for everyone.

BoJack Horseman is said to be Netflix’s most ambitious series since Orange Is the New Black. The show would likely turn off viewers because of its silliness in its first few episodes.

However, the series gets deeper rather than just a show about a horse-man and other animal people. It gets poignantly real and utterly depressing in some sequences.

A layer of comedy is still there, however, intertwined into the intensely sad narratives. The first two seasons of the show focus on the lead character, a washed-up celebrity of 1980s sitcom played by Will Arnett.

The show creator literally translates the desperation and cynicism of the horseman who is addicted to fame, attention, and self-involvement amid a depleted, melancholic life.

Bojack Horseman is a series that keenly mirrors the biting crimes of Hollywood and its superficial schemes. But the writers and the creator make a balance between the sad, bitter theme with a vivacious animation style and dynamic sense of character design.

In the aspect of visual and tone, Bojack Horseman kicks a surreal streak. The series’ outlandish moments stash an appealing touch of profound feeling, kindling a prospect of inflicted self-esteem, and stiff obsessions.

The End of the F***ing World, compared to other teen comedy shows, enormously has most teenage romance beat. James (Alex Lawther) is almost convinced he is a serial killer. As Alyssa (Jessica Barden) shows interest in James, he believes he has found his perfect first victim.

The duo went together on an impulsive road trip and that is when things get a little more complicated and spawn eye-opening insights.

At first, some worry about the show leaning too much into the cutesy. However, the writing, as well as the stars of the series, which include Steve Oram, constantly refuse to overwhelm the viewers with such mawkishness.

GLOW is another Netflix original series that offers a fresh idea in the history of contemporary TV. The show narrates the story of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, an emerging professional wrestling promotion.

GLOW Season 1 is a delight to watch. However, critics praise Season 2 and dubbed it as one of the best seasons of a TV show ever created for Netflix.

The second season outrageously entertaining and character-rich, it brings pure joy to the audience. The 80s soundtrack adds more flavor to the series.

GLOW stars Marc Maron who plays the role of the trashy B-movie director. He was tapped to make GLOW into a show.

Parks and Recreation is a popular comedy show that has become a staple addition to the wide Netflix library since. NBC’s Emmy-winning comedy series ran for seven seasons, from 2009 to 2015, and loved by fans.

Arrested Development is a modern comedy classic that masquerades as a mockumentary. The show revolves around the lives of a rich clan who are intrinsically unlikable and as are out of touch just as they are dysfunctional.

The sitcom focuses on self-absorbed characters who are at each other’s throats and the world in general. After a securities-fraud fiasco broke out, the family patriarch George Sr. is arrested and put in jail for fraud.

This family crisis sends the unsuspecting Bluths into a state of panic. They become desperate to hold on to their last cash and speck of their extravagant lifestyle. In the family patriarch’s stead, a young man leads his eccentric family and their real-estate development business.

Arrested Development is arguably one of the best sitcoms ever created on the small screen. Critics say it was far ahead its time when it premiered on TV in 2003. The series was astoundingly different at the time, explaining the early cancellation of the series.

When Netflix revived Arrested Development in 2013, it received mixed reviews from the audience. Still, creator Hurwitz gets the credit for his efforts to create something different than before.

Notwithstanding the divided sentiments of fans about seasons 4 and 5, the show’s preceding seasons definitely have some of the wittiest and funniest episodes a sitcom has ever produced. The first three seasons of Arrested Development are intricately plotted jokes are worth to watch a few more times over.

The Good Place is another remarkable series from the creator of hit comedy shows, The Office, Parks and Recreation, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. While all three of Michael Schur’s shows are typically workplace sitcoms, The Good Place is quite unique being an afterlife comedy.

This show revolves around Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell) who, after her death, finds herself in “the good place.” She is told that she is in “the good place” because she lived a good, altruistic life, but Eleanor disagrees.

She believes she is quite a terrible person. She only thinks she is in this utopian place because its architect (played by Ted Danson) made a mistake.

In this boundless, fictional realm, the creator is able to take a shot at making a genuinely funny show. It is not just goofy, but it also resonates morality and philosophical issues of today.

The Good Place Season 1 remarkably puts up a great show. Interestingly, the season finale is rich with a spoiler-filled twist that opens the possibility for a second season.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, the title to The CW’s romantic comedy and musical mix, may already turn off potential viewers. However, as the ex-girlfriend protagonist Rebecca Bunch would put it, the situation with the show is much more distinct than any rom-com slash musical series.

Other than simply stirring much time on its lively tunes, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend also explores profundity of mental illness, but careful enough not to overdo it and completely turn into a dramedy. Its stellar cast composed of lead star Rachel Bloom and Donna Lynne Champlin, Rebecca’s co-worker and best friend.

Fans can mine a plethora of comedy from the show’s songs such as “Settle for Me,” Textmergency,” “West Covina,” and “Dream Ghost.” These tunes are memorable and play a key to plot progression.

Overall, you will be treated to casual moments that make the show shine in its own right. You will love Paula the singing raccoon, Daryl boasting himself as “bothsexual,” or Heather expertise to spot mating signals, and much more.

Extras is a follow-up comedy from Ricky Gervais, the creator who is behind the magnificent, funny show, The Office. Similar to The Office, this two-season series tells a tale that is loosely based on Gervais’ life.

In this show, however, it focuses on his struggles to find and feel satisfied with success on the small screen.

On the outside, Andy Millman, the character of Gervais in Extras, seems to be a lot different from David Brent in The Office. However, on the inside, both characters share common attributes: they are two people who are after fame and believe they are actually better than they thought they are.

The lead character’s refreshing, platonic friendship he shares with Maggie, played by Ashley Jensen, steals the show. It is also worth to mention the sheer participation of the clueless agent (co-creator Stephen Merchant).

The show’s celebrities also poke fun at themselves willingly in each episode, which includes a biting, memorable diddy from the late David Bowie.

Extra offers two full seasons plus a Christmas special show, hence, it is rather an easy-binge all comedy show to check out on Netflix.

The show sounds more of a soap opera than a comedy, given Jane’s untoward journey. However, it infuses relentless laugh-out-loud moments that surprisingly delight the viewers every time.

Gina Rodriquez delivers a superb portrayal of Jane that she is basically the heart of the show. But Jane the Virgin is inarguably a comedic success due to two other characters.

First, there’s the brilliance of the Narrator voiced by Anthony Mendez. The Narrator helps explain and make interjections at shocking developments, such as “OMG,” with such perfect timing.

The key to a successful TV comedy show most of the time is perspective. It so happens that lead star of Lady Dynamite Maria Bamford has lots of it. The comedian also owns creative experience.

Lady Dynamite beautifully explores the moving life of Maria and her personal struggles. Critics hail Bamford as one of the most adored comedians of her generation. That is despite her absence from the spotlight for a few times. The actress has to tend to her mental health and bipolar disorder.

This comedy show is just one of the best to binge on Netflix. It is insanely hilarious and weird in its sort of way. It is created for television by Mitch Hurwitz, the man who is behind another funny sitcom, Arrested Development.

Creators: Pam Brady and Mitch Hurwitz — Cast: Maria Bamford, Mary Kay Place, Fred Melamed, Ana Gasteyer, Dean Cain, and Ed Begley Jr.
