AYANEO is one of the leading brands that supplies handheld gaming PCs. It may not have the bottomless marketing budget of tech industry titans such as ASUS, Acer, Lenovo, MSI, and others, yet its products are still remarkably popular. Its latest hardware is an Android platform called the KONKR Pocket Block.
You’ve probably seen similar devices from the likes of Anbernic, Retroid, and others. However, it seems there is a healthy demand for the Game Boy form factor. Chalk it up to nostalgia or maybe the retro craze, but the Chinese firm is not about to let this lucrative opportunity go to waste. So far, there are three colorways to choose from.
These are Atoms White, Original Grey, and Cube Purple. The KONKR Pocket Block is promoted as “A premium vertical pocket Android handheld. The ultimate portable toy for enthusiasts.” Gamers can definitely use it to play mobile games. It sports a 3.33-inch ultra-HD LCD with a 4:3 display ratio.
Below is a familiar gamepad layout with a D-Pad and face buttons. Ergonomic shoulder buttons are mounted on the rear, ideal for games that require them. A microSD slot is located on the left side of the frame. At the bottom of each unit is a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a USB-C port for charging or data transfer.
The KONKR Pocket Block also supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. AYANEO equips it with a MediaTek Helio G85 SoC, LPDDR4X RAM 2 GB/3 GB, and a 32 GB/64 GB ROM. Powering it is a 3.500 mAh battery. Overall, what makes it an appealing purchase is the number of emulators you can run on this bad boy without a hitch.
