Xiaomi has announced the new Mi TV 3S; a 4K 65-inch curved Samsung display powered by Android, that’s only 5.9 mm thin and costs less than $1,500.
Xiaomi Mi TV 3S in 2 Different Formats
If you like curved 4K TV’s, but aren’t too excited about the prices that big-name manufacturers sell them at, you can have a look at Xiaomi’s offering. Their new Mi TV 3S uses a 65-inch 4K panel from Samsung and is extremely affordable. So, what’s the catch you ask?
Well, since Xiaomi is a Chinese company, the TV is currently only available in China. The 3S comes in two sizes, a 43 inch Full HD flat TV and the 65 inch curved 4K TV. Both the TV’s run on Android and are very cheap to buy. The TV has a metal body and the screen has 4000:1 contrast with a 176 degree viewing angle.
The 65-inch TV comes with the Mi TV Bar, which features 6 independent speakers for Dolby surround sound. So how did they manage to keep the thickness so low at 5.9 mm? That’s thinner than any smartphone out there. To achieve this, they moved most of the hardware components, apart from the panels, in to the Mi TV Bar.
Inside the TV Bar, you’ll find the MStar 6A928 chipset, which has 4 Cortex-A17 cores and a Mali T760MP4 GPU. You also get 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. You can connect external storage using the provided USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 port. The Bar also features 2x dome tweeter + 4x 2.5″ woofers, for sound, obviously.
Since this is an Android-TV, running a custom TV MIUI by Xiaomi, it has WiFi, WiFi Direct, Bluetooth 4.1 and all those goodies. It also supports Dolby and DTS audio decoding.
All in all, the Mi TV 3S is a great TV at a very affordable price. The 65 inch 4K curved television will cost you ¥8,999, which is around $1,385. Whereas the 43 inches Full HD non-curved TV is even cheaper at ¥1,799, about $275 in the U.S. Unfortunately, we may never see these TV sets in the United States as they’re currently only available in China.
