Xbox Backwards Compatibility Titles Will No Longer Be Released In Waves Each Month

Microsoft recently added some titles to the Xbox One backwards compatibility list. After releasing a number of new titles, they also announced that the format for future releases is going to change.

Recently, ten titles were added to the list of over 100 titles. Notable new games available through backwards compatibility are The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and Soulcalibur. The other titles are Aegis Wing, Age of Booty,Counter-Strike: GO, Jeremy McGrath’s Offroad, Sam & Max Save the World, Skullgirls, Small Arms, and Space Giraffe. These titles have been added to the total list of available games, which can be found here.

The backwards compatibility feature allows Xbox One users to play Xbox 360 games. However, because Microsoft cannot retrofit the Xbox One to run Xbox 360 discs, all titles must be released digitally. There is a process of converting the games so they will work on the Xbox One, and not all games run perfectly. This process is why only certain Xbox 360 games are currently available.

When backwards compatibility was first made available for the Xbox One, it was announced that available titles would be released in waves each month. However, starting now, Microsoft will now release games available for backwards compatibility as soon as they are deemed ready. So Xbox One users will have to check often to see what games were recently made available for download.

As an added bonus, many Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners will be able to download The Witcher 2 for free. However, this is only available in select regions, and the offer will expire on February 5. Players wishing to download the game need to go to Xbox.com to get their copy.
