How safe is your navigation system? Do you know? Have you ever asked yourself that question? I haven’t. I didn’t think I needed to. I put my trust into something that is a piece of tech and I expected it to take me to where I needed to go. Turns out, we could be wrong to do such things. I could be wrong. That’s a first. I’m just kidding.
Waze is a navigation system that has been coming under fire quite a lot lately (and rightfully so, I might add). Here’s what everyone’s been reporting:
Waze’s Mishaps
So one of Waze’s key features is that it can redirect you away from the traffic-congested area and into quieter roads and streets. This has caused a huge outburst from communities who say that their areas are no longer as safe as they once were. Of course, this is due to the fact that buses, taxis and trucks now have to pass through these streets to get to their destination and makes it more complicated for people living nearby. Residents have started becoming smart about it and are actively trying to trick the app by faking accident reports, thus fooling the app into thinking the quieter roads are congested. Police officers are also infuriated by the app and the danger it poses to them. You can use the app to check where police ambush sites are located. In New York, two police offers got shot by criminals who used Waze to track down the location of the ambush site. It’s that dangerous! I really don’t think anyone can blame the police for taking a stand against this. However, it seems to have been ignored by Google as they have yet to take any action by removing the feature.
